Okay, so when I first set up my Etsy shop, I really had no intention of doing design work for other bloggers. But then in the process of designing Lemon Tree Dwelling, for my friend, Cathy, I realized that I could really easily make watermarks for other bloggers.

When I first started blogging, I never really thought much about watermarking my photos. Partially because 1. I had no idea what I was doing, and 2. if someone wanted to go to all the trouble to pretend my crappy pictures were their own, good on them.
Then I got hooked on Pinterest. Sigh. And one thing I realized was it was often really hard to get to the bottom of where an idea came from. Bloggers will use someone’s pictures in their post, give them all the credit in the world, and someone will come along and quickly pin that picture without giving it a second thought.
For example, in my hair clip tutorial, I used a picture from Not Martha to show where I got my idea. And it’s a gorgeous picture, definitely pin worthy. Within about a day of publishing my post, someone had pinned her picture! Oh no! It really bothered me. I didn’t want someone to see that picture on Pinterest, and then get directed to my site. She deserves the traffic for that awesome picture. I have since edited the picture, so if it does get pinned, it shows in big bold letters that you should visit her site to pin it.

So I would say that my number one reason for watermarking my pictures is so that if my work shows up some place else, it is very easy for the reader to see where it came from. I know that there are all sorts of ways to crop out and get rid of watermarks, but I feel like I’m not really trying to combat the lunatic who is trying to copy my work (because, honestly, there are a lot of amazing blogs out there, if they are copying my stuff, they are for sure a lunatic). I’m watermarking my work so that it’s easy for someone to know where it came from.
One really easy way to watermark your pictures is to just go to PicMonkey and add a word overlay.
Click on the P off on the left hand side. Then click “Add Text.” You will be able to choose the font, the color, the size, and how faded the words are.
But what happens if you are a total perfectionist freak like me, and you want your watermark to match your logo, but your logo is in a font that PicMonkey doesn’t offer? That actually is the case for me. Or what if your logo is in two different fonts, like Lemon Tree Dwelling’s? That would start to become a real pain for each and every photo. (Insert shameless plug here.) That’s where I come in.
